Spring has finally sprung, and these April showers are bound to bring May flowers just in time for Mothers Day. We all know flowers brighten everyone's mood, right? C'mon, cowboys and cowgirls, let's be a little more original!
There are many other things you can give to or do for your mother, mother-in-law, or wife that would make this Mothers Day much more memorable for her. You don't have to be a millionaire or a super chef to do something special. Today, I am going to give you some simple ideas that would make a big impact without breaking your budget.
Let's start with things you can do before discussing those you can give. Here are 3 simple ideas that won't require a lot of your time or a special skill.
1. CREATE A PHOTO ALBUM. In this day and age of digital photography, whoever keeps photo albums? Everything is on our smart phones, tablets, or computers. And therein lies the beauty of this project.
Any photos that she hasn't seen in a long time (or hasn't seen at all), or photos from a special time in her life would be perfect. If you have a photo printer and a knack for scrapbooking, I'm sure you'll enjoy making the album yourself, but even if you are all thumbs, do not despair. There are many online services that would turn your digital photos into beautiful photo books and even mail them directly to her if you prefer. Shutterfly, Snapfish, Mixbook, and even your neighborhood Walgreens all offer this service.
2. COOK DINNER FOR HER. I know, I know - not everyone is an Emeril Lagasse, Wolfgang Puck, or Jamie Oliver, but if you have any cooking skills at all, this is definitely something worth trying. Even better, cook up one of her favorite meals and leave the kitchen spotless when you are done. Guaranteed, she will be thrilled!
3. HELP AROUND THE HOUSE. This is a classic Mothers Day gift for a reason. Who wouldn't want some help with household chores?! If you can do a special project for her, even better. Is she an avid gardener? Plant a new tree or a flowerbed for her. Does she drive to work every day? Change oil in her car or give it a good wash and wax. You get the idea!
If you are not too handy in the kitchen, have never heard of scrapbooking, or don't like getting suds all over your hands, there is still hope for you. You can buy her a gift without having to break the bank. Here are 3 unique gift ideas.
1. A SPECIAL OUTING. Has she been all work and no play lately? Research free or inexpensive events in your area - concerts, plays, museums, tours, wine tastings, etc. - then pick one that's most in line with her interests. For a really special gift, tell her you signed her up for "Adventure of The Month Club," then take her on a free or inexpensive adventure every month of the year.
2. SEND HER A HOUSEKEEPER FOR A DAY. Book a house cleaning for her by checking your local housekeeping service listings or through a service like Handy, which also offers handyman help. I am sure your thoughtfulness would sweep her off her feet.
3. GET HER A ONE-OF-A-KIND PIECE OF JEWELRY. Let's face it: most ladies like jewelry, but not everyone wants to have the same piece that five of her friends already have. Get her something unique that will go with her newest outfit or that will remind her of a special time in her life. You can search online for handmade one-of-a-kind items, or you can simply head over to hART Sense Design shop and choose from sterling silver, gold vermeil, or copper one-offs.
With all these ideas, I am sure you will find something to tickle her fancy this Mothers Day. I hope you make it memorable.
