Victoria youth can now apply for a free BC Transit pass for 2021

Young people living in the Municipality of Victoria can officially apply for a free BC Transit Youth U-PASS, valid from February 1 to December 31, 2021.

In a press release issued by the City of Victoria, he clarified that young people between the ages of 6 and 18 will be eligible to apply for a free pass.

“I am delighted to see the launch of the Youth U-PASS program for next year,” said Mayor Lisa Helps. “This annual pass makes life easier for young people and gives them access to free public transportation services all year round. I believe giving young people access to free public transit is fundamentally important and will create lifelong transit users, keeping more cars on the roads and reducing emissions in the long run.

The City notes that children under 6 already ride for free on the Victoria Regional Transit System.

Applications are available online and, once completed, the annual access card with photo ID will be sent by post.

The pass is also valid for the entire Victoria regional transportation system.

“This municipal program is the first of its kind in the province, with the goal of encouraging low-carbon and affordable transportation while creating lifelong transit riders who will result in fewer vehicles and less traffic congestion.” the City said in a statement.

According to the City of Victoria, youth and their parents or guardians will be required to provide documents as part of the application to confirm their eligibility to participate in the City of Victoria’s free Youth U-PASS program.

Young people who cannot apply online can apply in person at the City’s Public Service Center.

The City also suggests that those with questions about the program contact the City’s public service team by sending an email. [email protected] or by calling 250-385-5711.
